DMK legislature party leader M K Stalin calls on governor Banwarilal Purohit
CHENNAI: A day after being elected as DMK legislature party leader, M K Stalin called on governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday morning to stake claim to form the next government in Tamil Nadu.
Stalin was accompanied by party seniors leaders S Durai Murugan, T R Balu, K N Nehru and R S Bharathi. Stalin presented a resolution unanimously passed by DMK legislature party in its meeting on Tuesday. Stalin submitted the letter of support from all the 133 MLAs, including 125 DMK MLAs and eight MLAs of alliances contested on the DMK symbol, to the governor.
The meeting lasted 20 minutes.
“The governor extended his wishes to Stalin,” a source said.
Purohit is expected to invite Stalin by Wednesday evening to form the government.
The DMK has already kept its list of ministers ready and would submit it immediately.
Stalin would be sworn in as the CM at a simple function at Raj Bhavan on Friday. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place between 9 am and 10am on Friday. The Raj Bhavan has made arrangements on its lawn for the swearing -in ceremony since Covid norms restrict the occupancy in the closed spaces.
The public department has been making elaborate arrangements and invites will be sent to all the concerned by evening. The state government has instructed media persons covering the swearing-in ceremony to undergo RT-PCR test 48 hours prior to the event.
